The Highest Selling Rappers are OVER 30 Yet "YOUTH" is running the game?

As I've said in past post Hip Hop is at a crossing point. The genre is 30 years old and is moving away from the "Youth" Oriented mentality that dominated it early in it's inception. Proof of this is last year in 2009, The two highest selilng rap albums were Eminem who is 37 and Jay Z who is 40. None of the rappers the youth co-signed sold more than these two emcees. Fast Foward to 2010 and dispite Drake having a Big opening week for a debut, 37 year old Eminem will easily surpass his sales next week. Kanye West is pushing his mid-30's and will easily outsell Drake Also. Whenever Jay Z decides to drop again, he will outsell Drake. Lil Wayne was born in 1982 so he's pushing 30 himself. The point is the YOUTH IS NOT running Hip Hop, the fact is Hip Hop is maturing and when 37 and 40 year olds outsell everyone, it proves the Youth is losing it's hold on the game. I'm actually happy to see this cause Hip Hop is really growing up.

50 Cent Returns To Twitter; Calls Out Paris Hilton Over Cocaine Charge

Rapper 50 Cent returned to his Twitter account today (August 28th) as promised.

The internationally known rap star commented on today's news that socialite Paris Hilton was arrested in Las Vegas for possessing cocaine.

Hilton was charged with felony cocaine possession on Friday night (August 27th), after police stopped her boyfriend's SUV after witnessing marijuana smoke emanating from the vehicle.

The rapper claimed that Hilton has been snorting the drug for years.

"Paris got cought with some cocaine last night Man that b**ch been sniffin that yola," 50 tweeted. "We was in mia a couple yrs ago she was gettin fucked up."

50 also blasted Kanye West, who also recently joined  Twitter.

Drake, Nicki Minaj Allegedly 'Tie The Knot'

Drake's lines about marrying Nicki Minaj in the song "Miss Me" have come true, if a series of tweets the pair sent out yesterday (August 26th) is to be believed.

Last night, the pair tweeted that they had "tied the knot," although representatives for either rapper has yet to confirm the news of their wedding.

"Baby I am never scared," Drake tweeted. "Baby I am never scared. PROUD is more the word I would use…Please refer to @nickiminaj as Mrs. Aubrey Drake Graham and dont stare at her too long. She's finally mine."

Nicki Minaj then seemed to confirm Drake's tweet to his 1,082,265 followers that she and Drake were officially man and wife.

"Yes its true. Drake and I tied the knot," Nicki Minaj confirmed to her 1,176,356 followers as well.

On "Miss Me," taken from Drake's platinum-selling album Thank Me Later, the rapper revealed his love his Young Money counterpart.

"I love Nicki Minaj/I told her I’d admit it / I hope one day we get married just to say we f**king did it"

Representatives for the rappers were not available as of press time.

Nicki Minaj's debut album Pink Friday is due in stores November 23rd, 2010.

Beanie Sigel Drops New Diss Record To Kanye, Jay-Z

Philly rapper Beanie Sigel is once again taking shots at the Roc, by expressing his discontent with his former affiliates, by dissing them over the instrumental to Kanye and Jay-Z’s “Haters” song.

“Middle finger up to Jayeeeer / I don’t give a f**k about Ye’eeer / Wanna know, I think Ye Queeeeer,” Beanie Sigel fired.

Also accompanied by an MC named “King the Hood Savior,” Beanie questions Kanye’s sexual preferences and expresses his lack of respect for the Roc.

He rhymes: “He dress Gayeeeeer / I sweeeear / I heard he takes it in his reeeeear / You should know by now I don’t caaaaare,” Sigel continues on.

This is not the first diss record that Beanie Sigel has shot in the direction of his former boss Jay-Z, as Beanie Sigel's  dissed Jay-Z on a track called  “Average Cats”

Sigel has made claims claims that he is angry with Jay-Z for Roc-A-Fella business deals that have gone wrong and for the fact that Jay-Z didn’t adequately market Sigel’s album two years ago.

Kanye West to Release a New Song Every Week Until Christmas

As the tension and excitement builds in the months leading up to the release of Kanye West’s still untitled 5th album, Kanye West is “all about the fans” and will be releasing a  new song every week until Christmas. 


Kanye, who tweeted the announcement Sunday night (August 22nd), stressed the importance of giving back to the fans. 


He also let the fans know how hard he has been working to ensure that his label, G.O.O.D Music, puts out a quality product. 


"I know y'all need the music so I'm dropping 1 new song every weekend until Xmas.  It may be my song, it may be a new Jay song, etc," Kanye tweeted.  


A minute later the Chicago based MC/Producer coined the impromptu releases as “Good Fridays”. 


"I'm calling it good Fridays. Yall know every Friday yall gone have a new joint from our family. We look at the game completely different now,” Mr. West added.  “It's about the fans. No more holding back. That's why I dropped see me now... It wasn't about me it was about the Summer the BBQs etc.” 


Kanye then talked about what he’s been working on as of late and let the fans know about his dedication to his music and the art he creates. 


He is working on projects for Pusha T, Raekwon, Mos Def, Swizz Beatz and Pharrell Williams.

“Swizz looked at me the other night and said man are you getting sleep and I told him I can't sleep... My people need this new music,” Kanye recalled. “Yall make all the hard work worth it.... We been up to 5 am every night working on everything Pusha, Rakwon, Mos, Swizz, Skateboard etc. “ 


Additionally, Kanye is in the process of creating a movie that will go along with the much anticipated album he has been working on in seclusion.

Faith Evans Busted For DUI in California

R&B singer Faith Evans was arrested earlier this morning on suspicion of DUI, near Marina Del Ray, California. 


Faith, who was once married to legendary rapper Christopher "Notorious B.I.G." Wallace, was stopped at a checkpoint when officers detected alcohol. 


According to TMZ.com, police arrested Faith for being intoxicated, although her blood alcohol level was not known as of press time. 


This is not Faith Evans' first brush with the law. In 2004, Faith and her husband/manager Todd Russaw were arrested in an Atlanta suburb for possessing marijuana and cocaine.


In February of 2010, Faith Evans announced a new deal with E1 Television and E1 Music to launch a reality show and new album, which will be distributed by Faith's own label, Prolific Music Group.

Lil Wayne Files Lawsuit Against Booking Agents

Rapper Lil Wayne and his company Young Money Touring Inc. has filed a lawsuit against a former booking agent who allegedly stole $375,000 in touring proceeds. 

Lawyers for Lil Wayne filed a lawsuit against Ujaama Talent Agency Inc. and the company's owners, Erskine Isaac, David Nelson on August 16th in the Supreme Court of the State of New York.

According to the lawsuit, Lil Wayne has worked with the company since the early stages of his career, by organizing and scheduling tours for the chart-topping rap star on a non-exclusive basis. 

Between 2008 and January of 2010, Lil Wayne participated in four different tours with Ujaama. 

A dispute broke out between the two companies over the proceeds of the two "America's Most Wanted Music Festival" tours in Summer and Winter of 2009.  

Around October of 2009, when Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to possessing a gun on his tour bus, he again engaged the services of Ujaama to book a national tour before he went to jail on Rikers Island. 

The lawsuit claims that Isaac and Nelson "elected to divert to Ujaama's own bank account an amount not less than $375,000, the sum that Isaac and Nelson maintain is owed to Ujaama for the tours in question. 

Lil Wayne's lawyer Ronald Sweeney had various conversations with the pair and asked for the money back, but Isaac and Nelson refused to return the money. 

Just this week, Forbes named Lil Wayne the 4th best-earner in Hip-Hop, after he earned $20 million dollars over the past 12 months.

Young Money's Lil Twist: Don't Get It Twisted

While his mentor and label mate Lil’ Wayne serves his time on Rikers Island until what many believe is this coming November, Lil’ Twist is steady at work on his debut album Don’t Get it Twisted.  Already garnering the support of his other label mates Nicki Minaj, Drake and Tyga on featured tracks, the youngest in the Young Money camp is learning a lot about the game and growing up fast.

But the features don’t stop with the Young Money emcees, Twist has also developed a strong relationship with his fellow young breakthrough artist Justin Beiber. The two spend lots of time together doing the things that kids their age do; playing basketball, swimming, chasing girls and just enjoying life.  But the life of a young and up and coming rap star isn’t easy, as according to Twist it’s “a lot of work”.  Take a look at this sit down with the next in line of the Young Money camp and see whats going on inside the head of a 17-year-old emcee on the verge of his debut album and living amidst the craze for anything Young Money.

AllHipHop: So, what’s been up with it Twist?
Lil’ Twist: Just working. Working on the album. Still working on some solo songs of myself, because I have a lot of collaborations on this album.  So I been really focusing on banging out  songs just by myself.
AllHipHop: Right. So, who are some of the collaborations with?
Lil’ Twist: You know, the whole Young Money Camp, Including Wayne, Drake, and Nicki [Minaj]. Justin Beiber, Sean Kingston. I got a reggae feel with Sean Paul.  It’s a few more man. I really can’t even think of all of ‘em off the head.
AllHipHop: I understand.  That’s crazy and a good look. Now, how old are you now? Because I know you got started early in the game.
Lil’ Twist: I’m 17 years old.  I make 18 in January.
AllHipHop: Wow. We thought that you were younger than that.  Honestly, I thought you were 16 or  something.  But, none the less, How’d you end up linking with Young Money and how    did all of that come together?

Lil’ Twist: Well, Lil’ Wayne actually had a show that was about an hour away from Dallas.  I drove    down to the show. And I already knew my  management that I have now, Cortez Bryant,    and  I ran up to him, and I was like, “ Yo, man. You have to let me get on the show. “And   so, he was like, “ Okay, let’s see. Put the little dude on stage” So, I got on stage, and I    ripped it! So, after that, Cortez started calling and talking to Wayne, Wayne got back to    me, and I been down every since.
AllHipHop: That’s crazy, man. So, obviously, everybody in the Young Money camp is real close knit; sort of like a family.  Can you tell me what its like being with Young Money, and being surrounded and able to work with such talent.
Lil’ Twist: Man, It’s a lot of fun. But, at the same time, its a lot of work too. All of us are different, so we bring our own thing to the table, you know what I mean?  But, yeah, it’s a lot of fun, and basically it’s just a family. That’s all it is.
AllHipHop: So, you had mentioned that you have got some work wit Justin [Beiber]. And, he is a    good friend of yours, right?
Lil’ Twist: Yeah, Justin is one of my best friends.  We like brothers, for real.
AllHipHop: So, when you guys have free time, what do ya’ll do together?
Lil’ Twist: We just chill. Kick it with each other when we both don’t have anything to do. Like, this past weekend,  we didn’t have anything scheduled to do, so we all just  caught a flight to Atlanta, and was just chillin in Atlanta.  You know, and being able to be young and be able to kick it with out all the work we have to do. Take a day or two just to play basketball, or go chill with girls, you know.

AllHipHop: [Jokingly] I know that’s treating you right, them girls…

Lil’ Twist: Yeah.  Them ladies man….
AllHipHop:  So, have you had any contact with Wayne or     saw him since he’s been locked up or anything?
Lil’  Twist: I talk to him every chance that we get. Every chance that I get. You know, my phone line   is always open for him to call.  He calls a lot, and sometimes its just for the blog and stuff.    And other times, he calls just to talk about the whole process, and what he’s thinking    about, and what he’s going through.  But overall, a lot of times its just to call and check    on me.
AllHipHop: That’s a bet, man.  Okay, if you could say a couple things that you have learned from    being in the Young Money Camp, either from Wayne, or Drake, or Nicki, as far as    lyricism, and spitting, what would you say are some of the things that you’d say that you    picked up on being around some of the other emcees?

Lil’ Twist: Just music as a whole.  You know, all of them are  very musically creative.  And that’s all   they care about when it comes to music. Being the most creative and innovative artist that   they can be.  So that they can make sure their music sounds great.  Me being the next one    off the label, they want to make sure that I’m the same way.
So, they will be in the studio with me a lot. Just making sure that my album is quality. So    they do give me feedback and I have the opportunity to ask them questions.
AllHipHop: So, how much feedback have you been getting so far?
Lil’ Twist: They Love it!  I feel that my album  is going to be great.
AllHipHop: Now, talk to me about some of the production that you’ve been kind of using for this    project.  Who are some of the producers you feel are going to make the album?
Lil’ Twist: I haven’t been using any major producers like that.  Because I honestly don’t feel that I need to.  Because there are times where you may reach out to a major producer, and I feel that they don’t put they all into the beats.  But, it can be a young and hungry guy, that’s tryna make it in the game,  and he goes so hard in the studio, and puts everything that he got into a beat.  And those are the type of producers that I work with.  Because I know he’s trying to come up, and I can help him.   They help me, and I help them. That’s how I look at it.  Also, I hate going for the big names, because they like negotiating a dumb high price.

AllHipHop: That’s true.  And that’s where the business sense comes in.  And  when you have big names like Drake, and Wayne, and even Nicki to do features, you really don’t any names that are bigger than that.  So, going forward, who are some of the artist that you would like to work with? Whether it be producer or artist.
Lil’ Twist: I would love to work with Andre 3000 of OutKast.  That’s my favorite rapper in the whole entire world!  So, if I got a chance to link with Andre, I would definitely be on a whole different level!

AllHipHop: What’s it like working for them at Cash Money Records? They brought up Wayne at a young age. Are they doing the same thing with you?

Lil’ Twist: It’s the same process.  Because Drake and Nicki are the first two artist off the label, and Me and  Tyga are the next two. It’s the same process with everybody. The goal is to make all of us as strong and as great artistically as we can be.
AllHipHop: Has there ever been a time when you guys have a freestyle session?

Lil’ Twist: Sometimes on the tour bus, just joking around. We may throw on a beat, because I make beats too, and we just go! But we don’t just do it out the blue all the time.

Over the weekend Kanye was on Twitter with busting it up with Justin Bieber about how much they loved each others music and for odd reason a collabo between Kanye West, Justin Bieber and Raekwon from Wu Tang Clan was mentioned. Now not only was it mentioned but they were dead serious. I really do not know what to say about this but #random. I mean do hip hop fans really wanna see this happen is the questions. I am sure fans of each artist would love this but what does the Hip Hop community has to say about this. Rap star Lil Wayne wrote a letter to his fans today (August 16th), posted on his official website WeezyThanxYou.com.

Lil Wayne is being held on Rikers Island, where he is almost finished a year-long sentence for attempted criminal possession of a weapon.

According to the rapper, he has learned a number of lessons while being incarcerated and has vowed to not return to prison.

"There’s some pretty cool people in here. Even though this isn’t a cool place to be," Lil Wayne wrote in his fifth letter to fans.

"I’ve learned plenty already and the best lesson is to not come back," the rapper wrote.

Lil Wayne revealed that he was put on a few extra pounds in muscle since being incorporated and that he appearance should be visibly different.

"Now don’t be expecting me to look like Hercules when I get out, but I should be a little bulky," Lil Wayne stated.

The New Orleans rapper has managed to maintain a high profile since being locked away on Rikers Island in March, for having a loaded .40 caliber handgun was found on his tour bus and linked to him through DNA evidence.

Lil Wayne has less than three months to serve before he is released from Rikers Island.

Last week, the rapper called into Hot 97 and conducted an interview with Funkmaster Flex and later that same evening, "Right Above It" featuring Drake debuted on Power 105.1.

"Right Above It" is the first release from Lil Wayne's upcoming album I'm Not a Human Being, which is due in stores on September 27th.

A concert in Richmond, Virigina featuring rapper Asher Roth and B.o.B. has come under fire by an anti-drug organization.

Asher Roth and B.o.B. are slated to hit the stage at the Back to School Jam concert on August 28th at the Siegel Center.

According to Denise Miller, president for the Regional Drug Free Alliance, Asher Roth's beer drinking, fun-loving image, delivers the wrong message to college students.

Miller also expressed disappointment that the rapper's cost $100,000, which the students are paying for.

According to VCU, the student's Programming Commission chose Asher Roth and B.o.B., who recently notched VMA nominations for his #1 singles "Beautiful Girls" and "Airplanes."

Representatives for VCU are expected to ask Asher Roth to refrain from performing one of his best known songs, "I Love College," due to the song's lyrical content.

50 Cent's G-Unit Records Inks Distribution Deal With EMI

It's official: 50 Cent's G-Unit has inked a deal with EMI Label Services to market, promote and distribute releases from the popular New York-based record label.

The first release under the new deal with be Lloyd Banks third solo album H.F.M. 2 (Hunger For More 2), which is slated for a November 23rd, release date.

Lloyd Banks' release will be followed by Tony Yayo's untitled follow-up to his 2008 solo debut Thoughts of a Predicate Felon.

Yayo's album, which will include the single "Pass the Patron," will land in stores in early 2011.

“It’s refreshing to see the EMI staff excited about my project, they have the passion and energy I haven’t seen in while," Lloyd Banks told AllHipHop.com in a statement today (August 13th).

Mike Harris, executive Vice President and General Manager for EMI Label Services, was excited to welcome G-Unit, one of Hip-Hop's best known brands, to the label.

“G-Unit is a huge force," Harris stated. "Lloyd Banks knows how to deliver a lyrical punch and his single has already generated huge anticipation for the album.. Tony Yayo is a totally unique talent, and ‘Pass the Patron’ already has the Hip-Hop world buzzing about his album coming out next year.”

For weeks, fans speculated where G-Unit might end up, with most of the chatter hinting to a deal with Def Jam, where former G-Unit Records President Sha Money XL serves as Executive Vice President.

With the move to EMI, G-Unit Records is no longer under the Interscope/Universal umbrella of record labels.

“The EMI staff is creative and willing to think outside the box," Tony Yayo explained to AllHipHop.com in a statement. "They are fans of my music and career. I’m looking forward to marketing and promoting my upcoming album with them.”

Jay-Z Teams With Nike For Limited Edition Sneaks

Only five pairs of Nike's "All Black Everythings" are being made in conjunction with the World Basketball Festival, which is taking place in New York from August 12th-22nd.

Each pair represents one of the five countries playing in the event and according to organizers, Jay-Z is the only other person in the world with each one of the five exclusive sneakers.

Nike donated the custom pairs to be auctioned off to benefit Jay-Z's nonprofit, The Shawn Carter Foundation.

Tonight (August 12th), Jay-Z will hit the stage at Radio City Music Hall to launch the World Basketball Festival.

"We're excited to bring together the international prestige of Jay-Z and the USA Team on stage at famed Radio City Music Hall to open the first World Basketball Festival. This will be a historic night," said Trevor Edwards, Nike VP Global Brand and Category Management. "We're also honored to collaborate with Jay-Z on limited edition Air Force 1's that celebrate the countries participating in this inaugural event."

Former Manager is suing Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne has been hit with a multi-million dollar lawsuit filed by a former manager that claims she was cheated out of her share of the rapper's estimated $200 million dollars in earnings.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lil Wayne's former manager Melissa Philipian and White Tides Entertainment Group were fired by Lil Wayne in 2005, because the rapper was unhappy with the quality of hotel rooms that were being booked for him.

In April of 2006, Philipian sued Lil Wayne, claiming she was owed $500,000 in commissions in addition to 15 percent of his total earnings.

Philipian claims Lil Wayne signed a three-year agreement in 2005 and that her company booked at least 21 shows for the rapper.

Lil Wayne claimed he never signed an agreement with Philipian or White Tides and that Philipian allegedly forged his signature.

The case was eventually settled out of court, but a YouTube video that recently surfaced has resulted in a new lawsuit.

In the new lawsuit, which was filed in Florida District Court, Lil Wayne, Cash Money and Universal Music Group are accused of fraud, defamation, breach of contract and other allegations.

Philipian claims the recently-surfaced video shows that Lil Wayne lied under oath, about his involvement with Philipian and White Tides.

Additionally, Lil Wayne allegedly blacklisted Philipian by claiming she stole money.

Philipian claims that she used to manage Tyga, who was advanced $7,000, but the artist refused to work with Philipian any further, after Lil Wayne refused to work with any artist associated with the woman.

Lil Kim's Three-O Vodka campaign kicked off today (August 10th) when Three Olives officially launched their newest flavor, Purple.

In addition to the new flavor, Three-O has changed the packaging on the bottle, which will is a dark purple hue.

Man Sued For Impersonating Drake's Manager and Booking Fake Shows

A man from Milwaukee, Wisconsin is being sued for posing as the manager of Lil Wayne and Drake to dupe promoters out of thousands of dollars.

According to a complaint filed by Eagles Entertainment Inc. in Milwaukee County Court, the defendant, Joey Turner Jr. (aka Jo Flowroshus), impersonated Cortez Bryant to book Canadian rapper Drake.

Turner allegedly contacted Eagles Entertainment and misrepresented himself, by claiming that he was Cortez Bryant

He told Eagle Entertainment that Drake's asking fee was $90,000 and collected a $9,000 deposit, for a show that was supposed to take place September 1st in Milwaukee Wisconsin.

"In making his statements said defendant knew that said statements and misrepresentations of defendant were in fact false and intentionally fraudulent," lawyers for Eagles Entertainment said in the lawsuit.

In February, Drake addressed a string of organized, fake bookings that were concentrated in the South. In all instances, a man posed as Cortez Bryant and took deposits for phony shows.


“It has been brought to my attention that false promoters and booking agents are illegally using my name and likeness to promote concerts and club appearances for their own financial gain,” Drake told AllHipHop.com. “It is frustrating for me to hear that many of my fans, who like myself are innocent victims in these scams, have been misled due to the greed of these promoters,” Drake stated. “I apologize to any fan that has been a victim of these circumstances or feels let down by false advertising.”

Eagles Entertainment is seeking a total of $27,000 in damages, plus lawyer and court costs.

Drake's bookings are handled by International Creative Management (ICM).

Eminem's album Recovery continues to earn the rapper awards, the latest being multiple Teen Choice Awards.

The rapper took home three Awards for Best Album, Best Rap Song ("Love the Way You Lie) and Best Rapper.

Rapper B.o.B. snagged the Best Hook Up Award for his song "Airplanes" with Paramore's Haley Williams.

Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga won multiple awards, while the Twilight series took home a total of 12 trophies.

The 2010 Teen Choice Awards, which received a total of 85 million votes, were taped last night (August 8th) at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles.

Jay-Z's Memoir To Be Released This Fall

"Decoded," the memoir of Jay-Z's life, will finally make it to stores in November even though it has been finished for a number of years.

The book, written by author and film maker Dream Hampton, will examine the history of the Hip-Hop mogul though a series of extensive interviews from Jay-Z, his family and friends

The Brooklyn native explained his reluctance to release the book before now.

"It's too much. For the book, I was interviewed, people close to me were interviewed. So I was learning a lot of things I didn't know as a child," Jay told Rolling Stones in the June issue. "It's not anything i haven't said in the past, in songs. It's just more detailed. A song is three minutes long. A book doesn't have to rhyme, and it has no time limit, so you can say exactly how everything went."

The book will also delve heavily into Jay-Z's lyrical content.

"Decoded" will be in stores on November 16.

ICE-T Gets Arrested

Veteran rapper Ice-T may take his battle with the New York Police Department to court over his arrest earlier this month in New York.

Ice-T, born Tracy Marrow, was arrested in Manhattan on July 20th for allegedly driving with a suspend license and not wearing a seat belt.

The rapper lashed out at the arresting officer and called him a "punk b**ch rookie cop," placing the "Law and Order: SVU star in a firestorm of controversy.

More press around Ice-T's arrest came when the head of the Patrolmen Benevolent Association in New York condemned Ice's comments about the arresting officer.

In a new interview with , Ice-T revealed that a computer error by the DMV or his insurance company was to blame for the arrest.

"You deal with a lot of cops and you end up with that one bad apple that wants to go in," Ice-T said.

"This one dude hated ice and wanted him in jail for some reason," added Ice-T's wife Coco.

"I aint been handcuffs in 15 years so it was crazy," Ice-T told TMZ.com. "Basically he took me to jail because he could. At the end of the day, I had insurance. I don't even have a point on my license. I was outraged because I done broke the law in my life and now you are coming at me with this?"

Ice said the insurance company made a mistake when he moved from New York to NEW JERSEY and he plans to prove it in court.

"At the end of the day, after I get this dismissed … I either can sue the DMV or the insurance company … and that’s when I have my revenge," Ice-T said.

The 29-year-old rapper and his longtime girlfriend, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, tied the knot in a super small ceremony on Friday (July 30) in Miami Beach, Florida, according to TMZ. The two reportedly dated for nine years before making things official!

Us Weekly reports that T.I. and Tiny will marry again in front of family and friends on a private island off the coast of Miami this weekend before heading to Atlanta and Las Vegas to celebrate with friends and family.

The couple has two children together; T.I. has three children from prior relationships.
