Diggy Simmons "Interview"

Let's JetEnt: As an emcee, do you ever put pen to paper when writing or is it laptop work?

Diggy Simmons: I used to do pen to paper. Just recently, a few months ago, I started using Text edit. I don’t have a problem with the pen and paper.

Let's JetEnt: What was the criterion to be met in your mind for artists to be featured on “Airborne”?

Diggy Simmons: Just the way they sounded (aura) on every track. I heard the Chris Brown track for ‘Put you on’ and I was like “oh shoot,” let me get on with my boy Breezy. The same thing with Raekwon, I heard him on the track and felt it would be great for New York; even if it didn’t hit radio it would do well virally. The process went by the track, not the project as a whole.

Let's JetEnt: Lupe Fiasco calls himself your big brother on a lyrical platform. Your cadence presents a minor hint of Lupe’s influence on you. Talk about your journey of being a fan of Lupe’s music up until the moment you shared a studio with him.

Diggy Simmons: I have every last one of Lupe’s albums, mixtapes and leaks. He has been a huge inspiration to me in Hip-Hop. It was an honor to work with him. I had the opportunity to see him on tour. He put me into a group of his favorite artists coming up in the game. It’s just an honor to work with someone I can link with creatively and brotherly.

Let's JetEnt: Two more questions Diggy. Are you keeping your eye on Airborne downloads?

Diggy Simmons: The thing with me and downloads, I don’t know, I used to check on them more in the beginning. Now, I just let them be what it is. I won’t be mad if I don’t have a certain amount of downloads. When I was in LA a few days ago chilling with my team, I heard that Airborne reached 200,000 in just a few days. And that was just the direct link; it didn’t include DatPiff.com and other sites that are hosting the download. It feels good that so many people are acknowledging it.

Let's JetEnt: Final question, the youth movement is growing quickly in 2010. Jaden and Willow Smith are on the move; Justin Beiber is on the move. The youngn’s are being taken seriously by all ages and I believe that you are the major reason why. What are your thoughts on the current youth movement and your part in it?

Diggy Simmons: I am happy to be a part of this. I think that this is the most beautiful thing. Justin Beiber being my homey for a year and a half now. To watch him blow up and his progression is great. I’ve just met Jaden Smith a few weeks ago. He is a real cool kid, very talented. And Willow, you might see something from us coming out. It’s great man. My homey Lil’ Twist is doing his thing. There are some young artists on the come up at DEF JAM doing their thing. And it’s not like we’re all good enough for our age. I feel that all of us that are making a name for ourselves are as good as anybody; we can hold our own.

Hip-Hop Producer Da Mizza To Expose Mariah Carey In New Book

R&B songstress Mariah Carey will be the subject of a tell-all book, when Hip-Hop producer Da Mizza releases Guilty By Association, a new book detailing his love affair with the superstar singer.

Da Mizza, born Damion Young, claims that he was Mariah's producer as well as her live-in-boyfriend, when he worked in radio as an executive at L.A.'s Power 106.

Additionally, as a producer,  Da Mizza has sold over 30 million records, by co-produced or worked with artists like Dr. Dre, Michael Jackson, Hootie & The Blowfish, Eric Burdon and others.

According to Da Mizza, who produced Mariah's hit singles "Crybaby," "Irresistible" and "I Still Believe," the book will reveal details about "one of the industry's most passionate love affair."

“It’s the truth,” Damizza told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “When it comes to the music industry I know how deep the rabbit hole goes ... and I’m taking fans along for the ride. But there’s a lot more to my story than introducing Mariah to Eminem."

According to Da Mizza, Mariah's attorney's served him with a cease-and-desist request to block the release of the book, which also details the exploits of other music industry figures the producer has encountered.

"It’s the truth of  why Dr. Dre’s “Detox” has been in limbo for more than a decade ... it’s how Jay-Z became huge enough to run Def-Jam Records ... it’s how I salvaged Janet Jackson’s relationship with radio programmers all over the world. I’m letting loose on how records are made, promoted, leaked, paid off, corrupted and careers and lives made and destroyed at the whims of ego and corporate corruption. I was
there.”

Guilty By Association is due in stores via Two Harbors Press on October 10th, 2010.

Boxer Floyd Mayweather was arrested on Friday over charges that he physically abused her and stole her cellphone during an argument.

Mayweather was in jail only for a brief period before he was released on $3,000 bail. He now faces up to five years in prison if convicted of grand larceny, reports the Associated Press. Grand larceny is the result of items stolen that are valued at $250 or more.

Mayweather is expected to appear in court on Nov. 9 in Law Vegas.

Mayweather, through his lawyer, has denied any wrongdoing.

Las Vegas Metro Police were called to the home around 5:00AM this morning after a 911 call was placed by Josie Harris, the mother of the boxing champion's children.

Harris has requested an order of protection against Mayweather, which was granted by a judge.

In a nine-page document, Harris explained her position.

Harris wrote, "He yelled and screamed that he was going to kill me and my boyfriend. Floyd has threatened to have other people do harm to me as well and if [there] is a way I can be protected from that please help me."

Rapper 50 Cent, a friend of Mayweather, offered his view on the matter via Twitter.

“She has a girlfriend that stays in the guesthouse that floyd is paying for her as child support that is helping fuel the situation,” said 50 Cent. “I speak to floyd every day he like my brother his babys mother did this s**tbefor in 2003 dragged him to court then said he didn't hit her."

Russell Simmons Files $55 Million Lawsuit Against Hong Kong Clothing Distributor

Hip-Hop mogul Russell Simmons has filed a $55 million breach of contract lawsuit over his "American Classics By Russell Simmons" and "Russell Simmons Argyleculture" clothing brands.

Simmons, who co-founded founded the legendary Def Jam Record label, also launched the pioneering Phat Farm clothing line in 1992 before selling it to Kellwood for $140 million in cash in 2004.

According to Simmons' this is the first lawsuit he has ever had to file against a partner.

Simmons claims Hong Kong-based apparel licensing company Li & Fung, USA was supposed to help the mogul market and distribute his flagship Argyleculture brand.

The mogul claims that Li & Fung USA "expressed a false enthusiasm" for his flagship brand in order to induce the mogul into licensing them his mass market brand, which is American Classics by Russell Simmons.

"Almost 20 years ago I pioneered a space that enabled an entire generation of minority designers and entrepreneurs to redefine the landscape of fashion," Simmons said of the lawsuit. "Similarly today, there is an enormous void in the market to fulfill the aspirations of the Urban Graduate, who has grown out of this urban fashion trend but isn't represented by the mainstream brands…"

Simmons claims that he waited two years hill Li & Fung USA failed to execute and offered no development or support for either of the brands, resulting in the legal maneuver.

"I have taken this action to protect my partnerships with retailers and recover millions in damages on behalf of my brands and to protect my name and reputation in the industry," Simmons said. "Over the last 30 years and with the help of numerous partners, I've built successful groundbreaking businesses in music, apparel, television, film, jewelry, games and multiple charities and causes. Not once have I ever had to file a lawsuit. For the first time in my career I found myself with a partner in Li & Fung, which had executives who willfully and repeatedly put the integrity of my brands at risk."

50 Cent Reveals Details Behind Floyd Mayweather Assault Case w/Ex-Girl

Rap star 50 Cent has revealed details about a domestic violence incident involving his close confidant, boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Police are seeking Floyd Mayweather over a domestic violence incident this morning, involving Mayweather and his estranged girlfriend, Josie Harris.

"She alleges he hit her," LVPD spokeswoman told the Associated Press. "We're looking for him to get his side of the story," said Officer Barbara Morgan, a Las Vega police spokeswoman. "We're looking to talk to him as a potential suspect."

No warrant was issued, and no charges were immediately filed.According to 50 Cent, Harris is an "angry baby mama" who wants Mayweather's money.

50 Cent revealed that he spoke to Mayweather just hours before Harris called 911 and claimed that boxing champ assaulted her.

"She's claiming he hit her but has no bruises," 50 Cent revealed in a series of tweets. "Floyd went to see his kids last night if a fighter of floyd caliber hits u, u would b bruised."

According to 50 Cent, he spoke with Floyd prior to the situation and afterwards and that the boxer wasn't upset either time.

50 Cent said that Harris lived in a guesthouse on Mayweather's Las Vegas estate with an unnamed girlfriend, who could be fueling the dispute between Harris and Mayweather.

"He said he asked her why was the house so dirty she started trippin," according to 50 Cent. He bought nice clothes for his kids they were all over the place. His baby moma said shes not gonna force them to wear clothes they dont want. I told him that's crazy. I know how he felt. I met her before so I told him she would calm down. Can't believe she called the cops. Floyd said he feels like her girlfriend is using her and pushing her in the wrong direction."

Police Seek Floyd Mayweather Jr. For Assaulting Former Girlfriend

Popular boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. could face domestic violence charges after an incident at his Las Vegas mansion this morning (September 9th).

Las Vegas Metro Police were called to the home around 5:00AM this morning after a 911 call was placed by Josie Harris, the mother of Floyd's children.

Harris claimed the world-famous boxing champ assaulted her during an argument.

According to TMZ.com, a neighbor reported hearing a "blood-curdling scream that sounded like someone was being murdered," and witnessed two cars speeding away from the scene.

The pair have had a rocky relationship. In 2003, Harris claimed Mayweather choked her and beat her inside of his Bentley in Las Vegas.

The charges were dismissed against Mayweather, in 2005 when Harris testified that she lied about the incident because she was jealous over another woman.

Harris is currently seeking a restraining order against Mayweather, whose whereabout are currently unknown.

AXE Rep Says Company 'Troubled' By T.I.'s Arrest In Statement

Representatives for AXE have issued an official statement regarding their position on the arrest of rapper T.I., who endorses the brand.

The rapper entered a deal with AXE earlier this year, as part of a promotional campaign to reach AXE's target demographic of 18-24 year-old males.

That deal could be in jeopardy following T.I.'s September 1st arrest in Los Angeles for suspected possession of ecstasy.

As of press time, the company has not dropped the rapper, but the statement was less than supportive.

"We are troubled by this arrest," an AXE rep said in a statement. "In order to preserve the legal process, AXE will comment at a later time, as appropriate. In the meantime, we are reviewing our promotional activities."

T.I. was arrested around 10:40PM on September 1st, after he allegedly made an illegal U-turn in his Maybach, on the Sunset Strip.

When police searched T.I. and his wife Tameka "Tiny" Cottle, both were allegedly in possession of ecstasy, a violation of the rapper's three-year probation for attempting to buy machine guns and silencers in October of 2007.

"AXE is committed to respecting and upholding the law and promoting a positive image to consumers," AXE said in a statement. "T.I. and AXE partnered earlier this year for a promotional campaign. We were encouraged that the entertainer was working to become a more positive role model for others."

Fabolous and Soulja Boy End "Beef"

A brief feud between Fabolous and Soulja Boy, which started on Twitter, has been resolved on the radio waves of New York City.

DJ Clue of Power 105 in New York conducted a brief interview where the two men settled their differences.

The entire incident started after Soulja Boy was allegedly caught in a tryst with Kat Stack, who said the young rapper was snorting cocaine. The vixen also showed a plate of what seemed to be the illegal drug in an online video.

After the video went viral, Fabolous took to his Twitter with commentary that used humorous lingo “#stupidboyswag,” a play off Soulja Boy’s hit “Pretty Boy Swag.”

“I thought that he was taking shots at me, when it was just jokes. It was a misunderstanding, a mis-communication,” Soulja Boy said on the radio on Wednesday night. “I'm about making money."

Fabolous was brief and agreed with his younger counterpart.

“We're not trying to make a LeBron special...we smoothed it out and back to the money,” he said. “I know people thought it was going to be a [Manny] Pacquiao fight, but we sat down like bosses.

During the interview, DJ Clue said that the pair had exchanged information so that there would be no more misunderstandings.

WWWD? (What Will Weezy Do?) "What Will Lil Wayne Do When He Gets Out of Jail"

By Cornell Dews:

This is one of my most serious editorials that I’ve ever penned. It’s very serious because it deals with people’s lives and whether or not they’ll choose to live or die. In writing this piece, I have to reflect back on the lives of other men who found themselves in similar situations and use them as a basis to consider life or death. The men in reference are Pimp C, ODB and T.I.P. Please allow me to state that this is written in the utmost respect of the lives of the men mentioned, not to be disrespectful or distasteful to them, their legacies or their families. Hopefully someone’s life will be saved. With that said, when I think of the untimely demise of Pimp C and ODB, both dead less than two years upon their release from incarceration, and the mishap that T.I. has placed himself in less than six months of release from lock up, I think to myself, WWWD, What Will Weezy Do when he finally touches down?

By the time Lil Wayne is released from Rikers Island on November 4, 2010, he would have spent a total of ten months incarcerated. That’s only assuming that he does come home because tomorrow isn’t promised on the streets and definitely not while in prison. Prayerfully he does complete his last two months of his sentence and make it off of the island, safely. By doing so, he would have accomplished one task and that’s physically surviving prison; however, the most difficult and daunting task still awaits him and that would be, surviving and readjusting to life after prison, especially as a rich and successful rap artist with noted drug concerns.

My father has been a substance abuser my entire life and on the 28th of this month, God willing, I’ll be 37-years-old. It goes without saying that due to his addiction my life has been impacted in immeasurable ways. Yet and still, I love my father to death though oftentimes I admit resentment and animosity towards him because of my interpretation of him choosing drugs over me. I doubt very seriously if children of rich and successful stars will grow up to feel any differently from me. Still I trudge on, but if you only knew my pain.

When Pimp C died due to reported use of codeine and promethazine, while combating sleep apnea, I was saddened by his loss, but felt more for his loved ones who would have to trudge on without him. When ODB died due to reported use of cocaine and the prescription drug Tramadol, again, I was saddened by his loss, but felt more for his loved ones who would have to trudge on without him. When T.I. and his wife Tiny were just arrested on suspicions of possessing ecstasy, after being pulled over by police officers who also reported smelling a strong scent of marijuana coming from their car, initially it was hard to feel sympathy towards them, but immediately I felt sorrow for how their actions would negatively impact their children and the rest of their family. Two died from their actions, while the other is tethering on killing his career, risking his freedom and more importantly impacting the lives of his children in immeasurable ways. And while it appears to me that all of this could have been prevented I ask, why choose the things that could kill you, literally and/or figuratively?

Upon hearing the news of T.I.’s arrest last week, my middle school students initiated a conversation with me asking “why would T.I. do that after he beat the gun charges?” I was dumbfounded and baffled myself; I could not do anything, but speculate at his reasoning. Then one of my students said, “Mr. Dews, maybe he’s addicted.” To which he’s probably correct because it has to be something more potent than logic that will make a person jeopardize his and his loved ones life. Then immediately I recalled this Jay-Z line “I hope you don’t think users are the only abusers.” Though many of these celebrities would not consider themselves addicts, I interpreted the quote and its application to T.I. to mean the attraction of the “rap” game, the lifestyle it affords you, the luxuries, the sense of entitlement awarded to its participants and all of the other entrapments that leads to clouded and skewed thinking, which in turn leads to unwanted, but inescapable demise.

Such actions are the equivalent to arresting a career drug dealer. When asked “what are you going to do after being allowed to re-enter into society”? They give their sentencing judge, PO’s, and probation officers the right answer “After paying my debt to society, I intend to make a positive contribution to the world.” And before departing, they give the infamous “Don’t worry, you won’t see me again” speech. But to their homeboys whom they left on the block, that continued to engage in the same activities, when they ask “boy, what you trying do when you get out?” They give an honest answer, “you already know,” without hesitation. Many then proceed to do what they’re addicted to doing. In most cases, it’s the same things that they did prior to their incarceration.

Honestly, that’s my fear for Lil Wayne. Based on his own account and admission, he’s a substance abuser and maybe of all rappers, he lives most like a rock star. He smokes marijuana in abundance and has been reported in indulging himself with drinking codeine and promethazine on the regular. His system should be fairly clean from his stint on the island. My concern is that if he attempts to partake in the same over exuberant lifestyle that he led prior to going to prison upon his return home, it could cause his body to go into complete shock, which could be detrimental. Oftentimes, people will try to go even harder than they did before jail, after returning home. Almost in an attempt to make up for the time they were away. Or maybe it’s an attempt to mentally deal with everything that transpired in their life and to those whom their decisions affected while they were incarcerated. Who knows? In this case, only Wayne does. For the rest of us, we’re left to wait and see WWWD?

Waka Flocka Gives Back to Community; Planning Charitable Events

Last week, Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka and fellow Brick Squad member Gucci Mane took part in South Jamaica Queens' annual "40 Day" celebration.

Waka and Gucci appeared with Debra Antney and her staff from Mizay Entertainment.

They helped pass out laptops and other school supplies to the kids, in addition to shooting some hoops.

According to Waka this is not the first and certainly will not be the last of his charitable deeds.

"My mom's been doing things in the community and putting together charity events since I was a little kid and she'd make us help her with whatever she was doing,” Waka told AllHipHop.com.  “Now that I'm older, all that has stuck.  I can't help but follow her example."

Last month, as temperatures hovered around 98 degrees in Atlanta, Waka and his crew passed out water to the homeless and as the holiday season approaches, he intends to do even more random acts of kindness.

"We (Mizay Entertainment) got a lot of stuff we're planning to make sure people have a good Thanksgiving and Christmas but it's still not gone stop there.  We been doing this."

Waka Flocka's debut album Flockaveli drops on October 5th.

Busta Rhymes, Leaders of the New School Sued Over 1991 Track (Docs)

Busta Rhymes and members of his former group Leaders of the New School have been hit with a lawsuit stemming from a sample used on the song "Case of the P.T.A."

The song, which taken from the L.O.N.S' debut album Future Without A Past, was a hit for the group in 1991.

In a lawsuit filed on September 2nd in U.S. District Court for Central California, plaintiffs Drive-In Music Company accused Busta, Charlie Brown, Dinco D., Milo and ElektraRecords of copyright infringement.

The lawsuit stems over the use of the "Let A Woman Be A Woman, Let A Man Be A Man," by Dyke And The Blazers.

According to Drive-In, they never realized "Case of the P.T.A." contained a sampled portion of the song.

Additionally, Drive-In claims that A Future Without A Past is still presently being sold in digital formats, with the illegal sample in question.

Drive-In is suing for damages that will be determined by a jury.

The company also seeks a permanent injunction to halt sales of the classic Hip-Hop album, in addition to impounding any existing copies.

Soulja Boy Challenges Fabolous To A Battle Over Twitter Insults

Atlanta rapper Soulja Boy has challenged rapper Fabolous to a battle over a series of tweets the Brooklyn rapper sent out last week making fun of Soulja Boy's alleged tryst with Katt Stacks.

Fabolous, who is known for starting trending topics on Twitter with his tweets, lashed out at Soulja Boy after footage of him hit the net with Katt Stacks in a hotel room, allegedly using cocaine.

Although Soulja Boy has denied any drug use, Fabolous berated him on Twitter, to his 631, 337 followers.

"Lettin Kat Stacks in ur hotel room alone is #StupidBoySwag," Fabolous tweeted last month. "All u rappers pay attention, that right there is called#StupidBoySwag* AYYYY."

Fab continued the insults, which Soulja Boy has finally replied to.

Although he deleted some of the more aggressive tweets from last night, today (September 7th), Soulja Boy resumed his threats to Fabolous via Twitter.

"I will murder that ni**a fab in a freestyle battle he garbage compared to soulja boy," Soulja Boy tweeted today. "I tell you what Fabolous get yo weak ass on wax and spit them weak ass bars so I can s**t on you boy."

Soulja Boy then called out Fabolous over his new mixtape There Is No Competition 2: The Grieving Music, which dropped last week.

"Fab is so mothafu**in lame he pick the wrong week to beef," Soulja Boy continued to tweet to his 2,358,026 followers. "lets see how much his new "EP" sell 1st week. -_- garbage ass rapper."

DMX Calls Plies 'One Of The Worst Rappers' During Radio Interview

Recently freed rapper DMX made waves in Saint Louis over the weekend, during an appearance on Hot 104.1.

The rapper appeared on the Young Dip's show and after Young Dip finished playing a song by Fort Meyers, Florida rapper Plies, DMX  shared his opinion with the station's hundreds-of-thousands of listeners.

While DMX co-signed T.I. as his favorite artists out right now, he blasted Plies.

"I don't even know who the worst is, but he has to be one of the worst," DMX said. "I mean 'Bruh Bruh?' Serious? that has to be one of the worst. How do you even fix your mouth to say that or spell that? I am looking at how it's spelled."

The rapper then got serious and revealed a more positive side, that could be featured on his upcoming album.

"On a serious note, what a lot of people don't understand, is that we as artists, are teachers. And if you teach people to spell like that and talk like that, then you dumber than the people you are supposed to be teaching."

DMX is in the studio with Dame Grease, Swizz Beatz, Diesel and Scott Storch, who are crafting a new, highly anticipated album from the rapper, born Earl Simmons.

Police: Ecstasy Found On T.I. and Wife, Not In Maybach(UPDATE)

Police have confirmed they found the drug ecstasy on rapper T.I. When he was stopped in Los Angeles Wednesday (September 2nd) evening.

Police said they found several pills on the rapper when he was stopped for making an illegal U-turn on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles.

According to the Los Angeles County Police Department, the drugs were found directly on T.I. and his wife, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle.

No drugs were found in the Maybach T.I. was driving according to police, who arrested the newlyweds around 10:40 am.

T.I. is currently in Atlanta, where he is expected to meet with his probation officer, as well as the judge who sentenced him to a year in prison, for attempting to purchase machine guns and silencers prior to the BET Awards in 2007.

T.I. and Tiny have been charged with possession of a controlled substance.

They were released early Thursday morning on $10,000 bail a piece.

If convicted, both face up to a year in state prison.

Another Guard On Rikers Accused Of Favoring Rapper Lil Wayne

A guard on Rikers Island could face disciplinary action for allegedly giving superstar rapper Lil Wayne preferential treatment in the prison.

An investigation has been launched over the alleged actions of Captain Latanya Brown, who is accused of spending extra time with Lil Wayne.

Additionally, the New York Post reports that Captain Brown allegedly allowed the rapper to stay in his cell, while other inmates were ordered out of their bunks and into the recreation yard.

The prison has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to showing favoritism towards any inmate.

In April, just one month after the rapper started his year-long sentence for attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a guard at the complex was fired for allegedly spying on Lil Wayne.

Amelia Negron was fired for glimpsing at Lil Wayne, although she denied the charges, claiming her union boss forced her to make a confession.

This is not the first time a rapper has caused controversy on Rikers Island.

In June of 2009, it was revealed that Foxy Brown allegedly received preferential treatment during her 9-month stay on Rikers Island in 2006.

The rapper held a photo shoot and  allegedly received unlimited phone/TV use, makeup, luxury clothing and outside meals.

In October of 2009, Correction Chief Peter Curcio and a Rabbi named Leib Glanz resigned over the scandal, after the Brown reports, in addition to allegations that Rabbi Glanz arranged a lavish bar mitzvah for an inmate.
